पाश की कविता हमारी क्रांतिकारी काव्य–परंपरा की अत्यंत प्रभावी और सार्थक अभिव्यक्ति है । मनुष्य द्वारा मनुष्य के शोषण पर आधारित व्यवस्था के नाश और एक वर्गविहीन समाज की स्थापना के लिए जारी जनसंघर्षों में इसकी पक्षधरता बेहद स्पष्ट है । साथ ही यह न तो एकायामी है और न एकपक्षीय, बल्कि इसकी चिंताओं में वह सब भी शामिल है, जिसे इर प्रगतिशील काव्य–मूल्यों के लिए प्राय: विजातीय माना जाता रहा है । अपनी कविता के मा/यम से पाश हमारे समाज के जिस वस्तुगत यथार्थ को उद्घाटित और विश्लेषित करना चाहते हैं, उसके लिए वे अपनी भाषा, मुहावरे और बिंबों–प्रतीकों का चुनाव ठेठ ग्रामीण जीवन से करते हैं । घर–आँगन, खेत–खलिहान, स्कूल–कॉलेज, कोट–कचहरी, पुलिस–फौज और वे तमाम लोग जो इन सबमें अपनी–अपनी तरह एक बेहतर मानवीय समाज की आकांक्षा रखते हैं, बार–बार इन कविताओं में आते हैं । लोक–जीवन में ऊर्जा ग्रहण करते हुए भी ये कविताएँ प्रतिगामी आस्थाओं और विश्वासों को लक्षित करना नहीं भूलतीं और उनके पुनर्संस्कार की प्रेरणा देती हैं । ये हमें हर उस मोड़ पर सचेत करती हैं, जहाँ प्रतिगामिता के खतरे मौजूद हैंय फिर ये खतरे चाहे मौजूदा राजनीति की पतनशीलता से पैदा हुए हों या धार्मिक संकीर्णताओं सेय और ऐसा करते हुए ये कविताएँ प्रत्येक उस व्यक्ति से संवाद बनाए रखती हैं जो कल कहीं भी जनता के पक्ष में खड़ा होगा । इसलिए आकस्मिक नहीं कि काव्यवस्तु के संदर्भ में पाश नाज़िम हिकमत और पाब्लो नेरुदा–जैसे क्रांतिकारी कवियों को ‘हमारे अपने कैंप के आदमी’ कहकर याद करते हैं और संबोधन–शैली के लिए महाकवि कालिदास को । संक्षेप में, हिंदी और पंजाबी साहित्य से गहरे तक जुड़े डॉ– चमनलाल द्वारा चयनित, संपादित और अनूदित पाश की ये कविताएँ मनुष्य की अपराजेय संघर्ष–चेतना का गौरव–गान हैं और हमारे समय की अमानवीय जीवन– स्थितियों के विरुद्ध एक क्रांतिकारी हस्तक्षेप ।(बीच का रास्ता नहीं होता)

जन्म: 9 सितंबर, 1950। जन्म-स्थान: तलवंडी सलेम नामक गाँव, तहसील नकोदर, जिला जालंधर (पंजाब)। पूरा नाम: अवतार सिंह संधू। आठवें और नवें दशक में उभरे पंजाबी के सर्वाधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण कवि। पहली कविता 15 वर्ष की आयु में लिखी। पहली बार कवि के रूप में 1967 में छपे।(click here to buy)
हायर सेकंडरी के बाद प्राइवेट रूप में बी.ए.। गाँव में स्कूल खोला। बाद में ‘सिआड़’ (1972-73), ‘हेम ज्योति’ (1974-75) और हस्तलिखित ‘हाक’ (1982) नामक पत्रिकाओं का संपादन। 
1985 में अमेरिका चले गए। वहाँ ‘एंटी-47’ (1986-88) का संपादन करते हुए खालिस्तानी आंदोलन के विरुद्ध सशक्त प्रचार-अभियान। 1978 में शादी। 1980 में एक बेटी का जन्म।
1967 से सी.पी.आई. से जुड़े। 1969 से नक्सलवादी राजनीति से। 1988 में कुछ दिनों के लिए घर आए कि 23 मार्च को (अमेरिका वापसी से दो दिन पहले) गाँव में ही अपने एक अभिन्न मित्र हंसराज के साथ खालिस्तानी आतंकवादियों की गोलियों का शिकार।
